HELLO!! So, a little bit about me…
When I started my fitness journey, I was not a fitness professional. I didn’t have my certification as a personal trainer. I was a stay at home mom who loved working out. Unfortunately, I was was lacking confidence, not getting results, lacked motivation, and was constantly complaining about my body.
UNTIL I DECIDED TO CHANGE MY LIFE!
I grew up in a small town in Pennsylvania, and graduated from Penn State. After college I stretched my legs and moved around a bit, got married to the love of my life in Savannah, GA and then started a family in Richmond, VA. My husband decided to advance in his career, moving our family to the West Coast, landing us in Orange County, California.
Now, let me just say…. I was VERY hesitant to do this move. We didn’t know a soul on the west coast, and our entire family lived on the East Coast. Next, my insecurities started to kick in.. “I’m moving where?? Of all places, ORANGE COUNTY!” I had this perception of California. I had seen the movies, the Housewives shows…all I could imagine was blonde bombshells walking all over the place! And then there was ME…a mom of two, out of shape, living in yoga pants everyday! I didn’t get manicures much, I wasn’t too stylish, I rarely put much effort into my appearance. This is going to be interesting, I thought!
I was a mom, and that’s where I focused ALL my time. I didn’t pay attention to my own needs, or much of my Husbands. I think deep down, I was a little depressed, disappointed in myself, and maybe even a little resentful as I watched my husband advance in his career. Granted, being a mom is the best gift in the world, and having the opportunity to stay home and raise my kids was an absolute blessing!! They are and always will be what DRIVES me to be better.
Fast forward to 2013…our move to Orange County. I was right…. beautiful people, FIT people…everywhere! But to my surprise, they were also some of the NICEST people I have ever met, HAPPY PEOPLE! How could you not be when the weather is gorgeous 24/7 and the sun is always shining? But that positive attitude, the “WANT” to feel good, to become healthy….it becomes addicting, when you truly want it!
While there, I met a dear friend who took me under her wing. We both loved fitness and clicked right away! However, she liked to lift weights, while I was a gym-class girl! I always avoided the weights section of the gym. It was so INTIMIDATING to me! I alway referred to that as the “guy section”. But I did, I took my first step out of my comfort zone, and that’s when I started to see changes in my body. I started to build muscle, my body got little tighter, and I became more toned. I started to feel better, look better, and I started to get my confidence back.
I made a commitment to myself to workout daily…that became my “AMY TIME”. I focused on improving myself. I stuck to this routine the 2 years I lived in California. I learned exercises, proper technique, and I got into a routine that evolved into a HABIT!
Then I set the goal to put a bikini back on! Silly goal, right!?? But for some mom’s out there, you know what I mean! After having kids… you think Bikini’s are a thing of the PAST, right??
I bought my first bikini (after kids) in the summer of 2014. I remember taking pictures of myself thinking there is NO WAY I’m wearing this to the beach. I gained 60 pounds with BOTH my pregnancies, and at this point in my life, I was still lacking the confidence I really needed to rock that swim suit! At the same time though, I was working my butt off at the gym, so I was feeling proud of my accomplishments, and new I was getting closer to my goal! I remember taking this picture to the left, and it was an improvement from where I started, but I still wasn’t happy, and still struggling with that internal voice in my head.
Now on to the next move. My husband decides to take a new job in Texas, landing us where we live today. Again, not knowing a soul, starting over once again…I found a gym fast, and joined! Then, my college friend calls me one day, and asks me to try this 21 Day Fix Program, saying it changed her life. “In-home workouts, I thought, really??” I was working out for 2 hours at the gym, how could 30 minutes be enough of a workout? After a month or two of thinking about it, I thought, “What the heck!”. I was spending so much on gym fees and simply needed a change. So I finally pulled the trigger and signed up for the program. David and I started together…and that’s when CHANGE really started in my life.
This program taught me the importance of eating clean, something I never really did before. It wasn’t until I cleaned up my diet that I started to see more definition in my abs, legs, arms. I called my friend back and told her that, “I love this program!”. At that point, I decided to sign up as a Beachbody Coach. What better way to stay committed to my goals, and get a chance to help others at the same time? And it did just that!! Fitness, eating clean, learning a positive lifestyle, and helping to motivate others… it has become my passion!! I always knew I wanted a career helping others, but I never thought fitness could be a part of that.
At this moment, I stepped outside of my comfort zone again and opened my life up through Facebook and social media!
I did this because I was amazed at the results I saw in just two weeks of starting this program! I was AMAZED at how much better I felt, how David’s cholesterol dropped from 300 to below 180! How my kids were taking notice of us working out and asking questions about healthy foods! My whole family was becoming healthy, together! And when that change happens, when you finally find something worth telling others about… that’s exactly what you want to do, immediately!!! When you see a good movie, or go to a great restaurant, you tell everyone you know, RIGHT??!! Same thing.
I’m so blessed for the change that has happen in my life. I don’t have a perfect life, FAR FROM IT! I have the same struggles as other Moms, it’s a battle everyday to gather the energy to workout, meal prep, and make healthy choices. But the choices I have made, and the path I am following…I know it’s leading me in the direction I’m meant to go!!
FINALLY, a FIRE has been lit inside me. I got my certification to become a personal trainer, I started up a bootcamp class, and I’m now doing in-home personal training sessions. I AM DOING WHAT I LOVE!! I feel more alive, and that positive vibe is transcending throughout all aspect of my life! I’m a better wife, a better mom…when you become BETTER, everyone around you becomes BETTER. I’m more patient, more confident. I have a positive attitude and surround myself with positive people! I read personal development books, I take the time each day to improve MYSELF! I also get to show my kids the importance of taking time to help others, and what it means to be confident in yourself. And most importantly, I am setting examples for my kids on how to live a healthy, fit, and happy life!
My goal is to help other women know that we can reach whatever goal we set for ourselves! Even after kids, it’s possible to get our body back, find confidence again, and love yourself!
I want to inspire others, and send a message that’s it’s okay for us Women or Mom’s to focus on OURSELVES! That doesn’t mean we are selfish. We need to be happy in order for the others around us to be happy. My life changed when I started to LOVE myself. At the end of the day, it’s not a diet that you need to follow, it’s your heart. If you truly want to change, deep down, all you have to do is listen to that burning desire inside you. Know that you can succeed if you put your MIND to it.
CHANGE IS POSSIBLE.
